Sorong - Dampier Strait
Named after British navigator William Dampier, the Dampier Strait passes between the Indonesian archipelago of Raja Ampat and the northern reaches of West Papua. Teeming with tropical vegetation and an abundance of fluorescent underwater activity, this area is known for its world-class dive sites, blissful bathing and unforgettable sunsets. A labyrinth of lagoons and mangroves that creep and crawl across limestone cliffs, this enchanting area has a prehistoric power that is sure to stay with charter guests long after drop off. A bucket-list diving destination, the waters in and around the Dampier Strait are home to vibrant coral, thousands of fluorescent fish species and other exciting underwater natives such as manta rays and whale sharks.
Dampier Strait - Fam Islands
The fabulous Fam Islands are a must for charter guests sailing the wealth of Raja Ampat. This tiny group of islands scattered on the Southeast shores of Waigeo is part of a fascinating archipelago. While the bigger islands of Raja Ampat are easier to get to and explore, Fam remains a little off the beaten track but offers guests the chance to soak up local life, immerse themselves in the kaleidoscopic colors of blue and green, and admire the karst islets that look straight out of a fantasy landscape. The best place to see the Karsts is Piaynemo and active travelers can also take the short hike to Star Lagoon where turquoise waters await. Snorkeling and diving are dreamy activities on these shores and the nearby Rufus Island is also worth a visit with its romantic lagoon studding the center.
